V.Ng and I just came back from an amazing getaway in Charleston, SC. We went for my friend’s wedding which was more beautiful than the “Holy City” itself.
I knew from the home-spun invitations and the lakeside venue that this would be laid back. Most of the weddings V.Ng and I attend are nearly black tie so I had to search for a dress with a little southern charm.
After I explained the venue and handmade invites to my best friend, she led us straight to Anthropologie. This is amazing because the wedding looked like something out of their catalog with a woodland ceremony, wildflowers, mason jars, and a pier that doubled as a dance floor. The dress we found was perfect. It had removable/adjustable straps and was cut from plush corduroy. The rich berry color and longer hemline were right for the season and the affair.
Shoes were a different story. After we got to Charleston I showed V.Ng the venue again and got to wondering “are stiletto platforms a bad idea for this?!” Crap, they definitely were a terrible idea. I did not want to be the jerk poking holes in the lawn and tripping all night. We rushed through (an amazing barbecue) lunch so I could do my nails and hopefully have time to shop. With only thirty minutes to spare I ran through King Street and by divine intervention spotted the shoes. Not only did they have a nice chunky heel but were also in black suede, a much better material than cream leather (what was I thinking?!) I also scored 30% Off from a scratch off coupon! Woo! (And, they felt great all night even dancing and roasting marshmallows.)
The event was outside so we didn’t take off our coats. I recently bought this collarless number from Zara. (I was enticed by the bold gold zipper accents.) It looked great over the dress, but didn’t hide it since it’s so slim.
We had a wonderful time at the wedding and in Charleston. If you have not been, definitely visit!
