So, I am seriously obsessed with Lanvin’s 2013 Blanche collection (…not to mention their $1000 bride t-shirt. If I win the lottery, this is the first thing I buy for our wedding! Yes, I’ve definitely got my priorities in order.) So, I hope you like this bride-tastic page from my fashion sketchbook.
Today’s Fashion Illustration:
similar styles: fit & flare $$ ABS, tiered ruffle $$ ABS, strapless peplum dress $$ Alice + Olivia (I actually really love the ABS by Allen Schwartz alternative to the fit & flare. I might buy it and save it for my bridal shower!)
Any how, Lanvin has a bunch of other luxuriously adorable accessories for the stylish bride. I like this shi shi pen & these save the dates.
Since I’m still trying to pay off my student loans, I won’t be purchasing any of these gorgeous beauties for my upcoming engagement party. Instead, I’m going to attempt to make something similar!
I pulled a couple more pages from my fashion sketchbook… this time inspired by the J.Crew fall catalog. (You might have seen a sneak peek on my Instagram last night.) Today’s post is a little more about my process and where I want to take Sketchbook Closet in the future. I hope you enjoy!
Today’s Fashion Illustration: Tombo dual brush pen and Adobe Photoshop CS6
I’m a huge huge fan of J.Crew. So, pulling pages from their catalogs for practice is easy and fun. (I just have to be careful not to be tempted to purchase everything from the pages.)
Drawing with marker can be a little bit daunting, but I really like the focus it forces. (Plus, it’s just the sketchbook – and I think there’s a lot of merit to not keeping your sketchbook “precious.”)
I’m desperate for the weather to heat up because I recently got an adorable tunic featuring one of my favorite trends: floral on stripes! (Sadly, my dress is currently out of stock; here’s something similar from Juicy Couture.) I’ve rounded up some other adorable stripe/floral styles for today’s fashion sketches. Hope you love it!
sweatshirt $ asos, classic printed button down $ urban outfitters, rash guard $$ J.Crew, bodycon dress $ Dillard’s
I really love the mix of bold graphic stripes and soft easy florals (and, I’m not a floral kind of girl.) They’re fun, kind of retro, yet sort of modern too! I love UO’s soft and vintage take, or asos offers a subtle casual version. However my all time favorite style is bold and colorful on neutral… a la J.Crew.
A few months ago I got a message from my friend asking about collaborating with his shop, Tom’s Accessories. Since then I’ve worn several pieces and perused the site too many times. It’s about time I organized my thoughts (with a new fashion illustration, of course.)
Cindy Bracelet & Hazel Stud Earrings Tom’s Accessories
If you regularly check Sketchbook Closet (I hope you do!) you probably notice that I’m not the biggest accessory aficionado. Putting together a good outfit is hard work for me — throwing jewelry into the mix is just daunting. (As I mentioned on a previous post) that’s why I was so excited to work with Tom’s.
Hello, hello (from Seoul!) You all know I’ve had spring on the brain and fortunately my trip to Seoul presented the perfect shopping opportunity. Today’s illustration: my top five “must have” items for Spring 2013–what I’m on the prowl for while shopping in Korea.
leather jacket $$$ Saks Fifth Avenue or $$ asos, printed shorts $$$ Net-a-Porter or $ Pacific Sunwear, candy colored bag $$$$ Proenza Schouler or $$ asos, bold striped blouse Forever21, color block low wedge sandal Sam Edelman
I return will be returning to Hong Kong in two days; it feels like my time in Seoul has flown!! During college I was lucky enough to study in Seoul for six months. In 2011, I returned for about a month. This is my third trip and I still love visiting Korea!!
As you know, I have spring on the brain. Long story short – I discovered that Amazon has an awesome shoe store (with great search features plus free returns on most items) aaaaand I ordered a bunch of sandals! Here are my impressions, final verdicts, and fashion illustrations (of course.)
Hazel platform sandal Lauren Ralph Lauren
I got these in a size 5 – they fit great and I love the snakeskin texture. But in my opinion the “sandstone” color was too dull and desaturated for spring/summer. I might get another pair in white and see how those look, but I’m still not sure. Returned.
Christa sandal Schutz
The smallest I could get was a 5.5 and the fit made walking around feel awkward. I loved the chunky wooden platform – and the Jute sole seemed comfortable for hot weather (aka if my feet got sweaty… ew) but I think it might take me a while to get used to the texture. (Am I crazy? Any “jute sole” fans out there??) The straps were a really pretty color but, unfortunately these were just too big to keep. Returned.
Hart platform sandal Lauren Ralph Lauren
Amazon only had these in a size 5.5 as well. As soon as I slipped my feet into these babies I knew they were keepers. The leather straps were buttery soft. The heel height is high (which I like) but didn’t feel uncomfortable after wearing around the house for a while. I also love the “Polo Tan” color – it’s exactly what I was looking for. And – bonus: V.Ng liked them too! Verdict: Exchanged (for a size 5 on Zappos.)
Did I make the right decisions or do you disagree? Let me know what you think; I’d love to read your opinions.
Thanks for viewing my fashion illustrations, everybody!

I hope everybody had a great weekend! Or… are you enjoying another day off? (;
Last week I met up with a good friend I hadn’t seen for months. She chose a lounge near her yoga class – just north of Houston St.; I seized the opportunity to make a return (impulse buy, sigh…) and admire the store windows on my way to dinner.

A friend suggested I write about how to wear your dresses in cold weather – what a brilliant idea! A lot of my friends (including the one who inspired this post) own several sheath dresses. Don’t let them go to waste this winter! Layering is the trick (oh yeah, and tights.)
marled scarf ($$ Ann Taylor or $ Target), ear muffs $ asos, convertible gloves $ asos, over-the-knee socks $ asos, glasses $$$ Warby Parker, sunglasses case $$ Rebecca Minkoff, ticker-tape mug $$ Kate Spade, gold stripe iPhone case $ Kate Spade, iPad Case $$ Rebecca Minkoff

We’ve had a couple of warmer days this week, but I’m no fool… In the blink of an eye it will be the arctic circle again. Today’s fashion illustrations are all about fun winter accessories (to wear & carry.) For some reason I gravitate toward dark colors when it’s cold. To remedy: I add colors and levels with deep textures. I love marled winter-wear. I also think “the faux-fur collar” is a great piece (when at the right price. Lucky for you, Madewell has theirs on sale!)

I was reading Extra Petite (a fave!) and freaked out when I realized holiday parties are around the corner. I’m usually so distracted writing cards and gift shopping; I end up throwing together mediocre last minute outfits. NOT THIS YEAR!!
V.Ng’s company is having a holiday party so I ordered a few dresses from asos to try on. I decided on the bright and festive taffeta dress. This silhouette never fails me and should be appropriate since most of his colleagues are our age. I’m still not sure if I’ll go with the bow sash or swap it out for a black patent belt, what do you think?
