Kate Spade $$ Waverly Street Drew Bag (On sale for $199!)
If you follow my instagram you may have seen a page in my sketchbook with all of my handbags. I was toying around with the idea of doing a “bag gallery” of all the bags I own. Most of you thought it was a fun idea (I do too!) I’m still trying to figure out how I want to format it. But, for now – here’s an entry into the archives for that plan.
This fashion illustration is of one of my favorite handbags – My Kate Spade Waverly Street Drew satchel.
I actually got this baby on Gilt during a flash sale. Sites like Gilt get me every time (which is why I don’t shop them often.) You know how they only let you hold an item in your shopping cart for a limited amount of time? That stresses me out! Plus – competing with all the other shoppers for items as soon as the sale goes live?! No wonder this was an impulse buy!!
Fortunately, it turned out to be a great find. I love it. It’s the perfect size, has lots of cute details, and is perfect for lady-like functions such as baby showers and tea time!
Oddly enough, this is VNg’s favorite handbag. He really loves it for some reason… It’s funny to me when boys have very strong preferences to fashion.

The dictionary defines “illustration” as a depiction, something intended for explanation, the act of illuminating, or the act of clarifying or explaining. It’s ironic that it’s my job to figure out the best way to share an idea with people… sometimes I struggle just explaining things to myself.
This weekend I had an amazing time catching up with close friends I rarely see. (Bi-coastal relationships don’t seem bad thanks to gchat, skype, and imessage.) But, spending real time together puts the importance of (actual) face time into perspective.
Sticking to my shopping freeze has been difficult, especially with the temperatures ramping up and new Spring merch dropping everywhere. Luckily, I’m blessed with a sweet and understanding mom who just couldn’t let a size 5 shoe (on sale) go to waste.

I was with my parents on a Target run (dangerous, I know!) My mom and I inevitably end up in the shoe section. My dad’s in the background saying, “Don’t you have enough shoes?” Nonsense, Dad. Nonsense.
A few months ago I got a message from my friend asking about collaborating with his shop, Tom’s Accessories. Since then I’ve worn several pieces and perused the site too many times. It’s about time I organized my thoughts (with a new fashion illustration, of course.)

If you regularly check Sketchbook Closet (I hope you do!) you probably notice that I’m not the biggest accessory aficionado. Putting together a good outfit is hard work for me — throwing jewelry into the mix is just daunting. (As I mentioned on a previous post) that’s why I was so excited to work with Tom’s.
I’m SO over this snow & rain crap. I’m ready ready ready for Spring (or SUMMER!) Today’s (long overdue) fashion illustration – my beloved short rain boots & the Muji umbrella I ended up carrying back from HK (it was just 1″ too big for my suitcase!)

As you can tell from the recent shortage of fashion illustrations – I’m having some trouble finding my motivation (and getting back into the stride of things after a three week vacation.)
On top of it – I recently went to the IFB conference where I met a ton of amazing bloggers and listened to a lot of great advice. I left feeling inspired but also with a lot to puzzle.
What kind of blogger should I be? Am I even stylish at all — are my outfits worthy of being documented everyday (especially amidst a sea of well photographed super chic style blogs)?
All these things have me pondering my identity, too. And, what I’m discovering is that (at heart) I’m an illustrator than anything else. I’m slowly working out what that means for my style… and for Sketchbook Closet.
In the meantime – thanks for your patience… & viewing!!
I’m on my phone in the HK airport – so please forgive me if this isn’t the best writing.

When it comes to jewelry, I’m pretty timid. I feel self conscious about choosing pieces that are overbearing or inappropriate.
So, when Tom’s Accessories asked about a collaboration – I was hesitant. I’ve never been the type to shop specifically for jewelry. But, I loved the site and felt it would be a great way to push me out of my comfort zone.
I left my apartment no less than five minutes before receiving the first of many compliments on my new Coach Legacy Perforated Penny bag. So, I just had to turn my new purchase into a pretty handbag illustration.

Honestly – I never thought much of Coach. To me, the brand evoked images of over monogrammed jacquards or mean girls in high school.
This was challenged a year ago when my coworker boasted the condition of her five-year-old satchel. She said “old” Coach bags had heritage, quality, and classic design. The conversation stayed in the back of my mind…

We’ve had a couple of warmer days this week, but I’m no fool… In the blink of an eye it will be the arctic circle again. Today’s fashion illustrations are all about fun winter accessories (to wear & carry.) For some reason I gravitate toward dark colors when it’s cold. To remedy: I add colors and levels with deep textures. I love marled winter-wear. I also think “the faux-fur collar” is a great piece (when at the right price. Lucky for you, Madewell has theirs on sale!)
