Hello!  I hope you safely survived the impact and aftermath of Sandy.  My thoughts are with those who were hit hard.  (I’m taking refuge at a good friend’s who luckily avoided power loss.)

Returning to our apartment and packing an overnight bag made it obvious that I have certain seasonal wardrobe staples.  These are my top ten picks that I can’t live without.

To all my NY/NJ viewers: I hope you stay safe and taking precautions during Sandy!  Since everything from the MTA to the NYSE are closed, V.Ng and I are spending the day at home.  We’re making the best of the “hurrication” with lots of Halloween candy and TV (while we still have power.)

I love hanging out in pj’s but I wanted to be productive and getting dressed helps a lot!  Plus, I’m prepared in case we have to make quick getaway!

Okay – here’s the story with my black denim.

Dots & Stripes

Fashion sketch for pattern mixing

Today’s illustration:
hooded puffer coat Burberry Brit (or $ Jessica Simpson and $$$ Bergdorf Goodman), navy school blazer Seoul night market (or $ Old Navy and $$$ Revolve), woven dot shirt J.Crew (or $ Macy’s or Net-a-Porter), striped belt with leather buckle A&F (or $ Amazon and $$$ Tory Burch), gathered striped skirt Who.A.U. I love waking up and seeing the sunrise over the city.  Vibrant reds and oranges peek around the buildings and reflect on the Hudson.  But lately, I get treated to a double color show.  Right outside my window I see the leaves changing colors; fall is in full effect! That means buildings everywhere are cranking up the heat.  I like to remedy this with layers.

Merlot & Manicures

Fall hues

Today’s illustration:
Bewitching by Revlon (you can likely find this in your neighborhood drugstore but also here), quick dry base coat by Revlon (Duane Reade or Ulta)

Hello hello!  I hope you all had a great weekend.  As you know, mine was a lazy one which means I had time to paint my nails!  I have fallen in love with this deep red raspberry hue.  It’s rich and pretty, but perfect for fall.  Getting your nails done with girlfriends is always a treat.  But, sometimes there’s nothing nicer than pouring yourself a glass of wine, watching some fluffy TV, and filling your home with the smell of nail polish!

PS.  I try hard to protect my nails from damage and discoloration.  I used a Revlon base coat this time, but if you have a favorite base coat please share!

Sunday Funday

Sunday Funday

Today’s illustration:
wool cable knit sweater J.Crew or ( $ Mango and $$$ shopbop), silk blouse Theory outlet (or $ Old Navy and $$$ Neiman Marcus), pleated pique tennis skirt Malandrino for Lacoste (or $ asos and $$ urban outfitters), Coach Legacy bag (also here), ballet flats with contrast trim and bow aldo (or $$ yoox and $$$ Lord and Taylor)

Some weekends are so jam-packed I can barely catch my breath.  Others, like this weekend, are just for relaxing.  When I know I might spend the day walking along the boardwalk or taking a stroll in the park, I want to feel comfortable and ready for whatever might happen next.  A bike ride?  A jaunt to Ikea?  Outside or inside – these layers, longer length skirt, and ballet flats will keep me worry-free!  I’m still loving cool cobalt to brighten up neutrals.  And basics, like patent flats, are extra special with a tiny twist or color- block.  Don’t you just love Sunday fun-days?

Silk, Sateen & Sophistication

Class it up ;)

The illustration:
sateen trench Seoul night market (or $ asos and $$$ shopbop), sleeveless silk blouse Zoe & Sam at Gilt (or $ asos), colorblock skirt with pockets BCBG (or $ Gap and $$$ Hugo Boss), Coach Legacy bag (also here), shoes yesstyle.com (or $ Target and $$$ Net-a-Porter)

I don’t know about you, but I try to take advantage of every last warm day and get the most out of skirts and sleeveless tops.  For me, this is a great work outfit.  The silky textures add a hint of sophistication.  The fun shoes and pockets on the skirt take it down a notch so you won’t look as tired as you feel when you head for your afternoon coffee!

Legging Love Affair

I love these Zara leggings

Today’s
 illustration:
down puffer coat Burberry Brit (or $ Macys), chambray work shirt Top Shop (or $$$ Madewell and $ Forever21), pebbled leather bag Kate Spade (also here), suede ankle boots (also here), knit jersey jacket (also here), heart applique sweatshirt H&M, Coach Legacy bag (also here), suede lace up ankle booties Steve Madden at 6pm (or $ Modcloth), high waist leggings Zara

My good friend turned me on to these Zara leggings last winter.  They feel great, the fabric is not wimpy, and the elastic band hugs in all the best places.  So, It was no surprise when I saw that Zara brought them back again this year (and in more colors!)  I immediately bought a second pair!  When I told my friend I had seen the leggings and re-purchased she replied “that’s kinda all I want to wear this winter!!”  My thoughts exactly.  What’s your winter staple?

Rainy Days & Mondays

A nautical-inspired fashion illustration

Today’s illustration:
sateen trench Seoul night market (or $ asos and $$$ shopbop ), boatneck tee Ann Taylor LOFT (or $ asos and $$$ La Garconne), paper bag skirt J.Crewsuede ankle boots asos (or $$ Urban Outfitters), pebbled leather bag Kate Spade (or $$$ Kate Spade)

My friends know I absolutely love all things nautical.  So, that’s why this rainy day inspired me to put together a loosely sailing inspired outfit.  Red can brighten your outfit and any dreary day (especially Monday!)  The classic trench keeps you dry and balances out the bright colors.  Mine’s a favorite because it has an incredible fit, which is hard to find since I’m petite.  But, also because every time I wear it I’m reminded of how the salesperson told me I looked so great in it that she had to give me a discount!  (Even though I’m sure ahjumma’s in Dongdaemun tell that to every customer.)   Any pieces in your closet that instantly brighten your day?
